Seventh Queens’ Distinguished Lecture in Law Redress Solutions Prizes for Academic Excellence Redress Solutions LLM Studentship

2022 marked the seventh year of the Distinguished Lecture in Law (the “Lecture”) which, together with several prizes and an LLM Studentship, is proudly supported by Redress. The Lecture followed by drinks, dinner and a prize giving ceremony, was delivered on Wednesday 12th October 2022 by Professor Richard Fentiman KC, the Arthur Armitage Fellow and Professor of Private International Law. Entitled, “Citadels of the Law: Law Schools and the Defence of Doctrine”. The Lecture can be viewed here Professor Fentiman, a former Director of Studies of our CEO Marius Nasta, retired in September 2023 after an outstanding contribution to teaching and research over 40 years as a Fellow at Queens’ College, Cambridge. He lectured on the merits of doctrinal scholarship in an academic landscape that has placed more of an emphasis on other approaches in the years since he began his study of Law. Professor Fentiman posed the question, “is legal scholarship really scholarship?” and concluded the Lecture by expressing the view that, by teaching legal doctrine, universities are also teaching the values which the Law represents.

The Lecture was followed by drinks in the President’s Lodge, dinner in the Old Hall presided over by Lord Falconer as well as a prize giving ceremony. Redress extends its warmest congratulations to the following students whose prizes were presented to them by Professor Fentiman:

Vanessa Yin Yuen Lo – The Redress Solutions LLM Studentship
Adam Brown – The Redress Solutions Undergraduate Prize in Law
Emma Duffy – The Redress Solutions Undergraduate Prize in Law
